“ I like to experiment with the idea of blending the
delicate natural colors of the California coast with gold
filled elements to create pieces that last and capture the
natural beauty to take it with you wherever you go.”
– Serene Spring
Serene’s expression in her jewelry is clearly influenced by
her passion for art, cultural history and nature. She
collected various types of jewelry pieces over the years
and found early inspiration in her grandmothers costume
jewelry as a little girl. Prior to starting Serene Spring
Designs, she studied fine art and art history at University
of California Los Angeles.
Serene started making jewelry as a hobby reflecting pieces
that she had dreamt about making for herself. She quickly
realized that the response from people was a sign she
should pursue a career in jewelry design. In April 2008,
she began this journey to translate her love for jewelry
and nature into pieces that she couldn’t find elsewhere.
Without any formal training in jewelry design, her love for
texture and natural colors is evident and unique with each
piece artistically and individually rendered. The pieces
are as much a memory of her experience of California as
they are art. Connecting her love for the beach, with her
love for texture and color in her jewelry, is her true
passion.
Every element in her work has been rooted in her love for
the natural surroundings of Northern California. Countless
photographs, collection of stones, shells and found objects
from the coast, have influenced her simple and unique touch
to her jewelry. The beaches along the coast vary in
textures, colors and feeling. Just like every beach’s feel,
depending on the sand, shapes, and shells, each of her
pieces echoes this unique feeling.
“
For me, the California Coast is a place that speaks to me,
and it is my expression of this that is present in my
jewelry.”

She strongly feels that everyone can gravitate towards a
certain feeling they connect with in nature, whether it is
the fine white sand of Carmel-by-the-Sea, or the redwood
forests in Big Sur.
“It’s
empowering to connect with nature in this way, and all of
us have our own way of celebrating it, but my jewelry
designs are my interpretation of this… The variations in my
collection is about finding a piece that speaks to the
individual and echoes their personality. Jewelry is
powerful because it can influence the way you feel as well
as mean something different and unique to every
individual.”
Serene continues to grow with her designs and take new
risks, but she takes pride in the continual growth and
development of her company. Her art is both a business as
well as an expression of her passion for California. Serene
Spring jewelry can be found in stores ranging from
California, Colorado, Oregon and Japan. Her work is
colorful, delicate, modern, and most importantly, wearable.
Either paired with an evening dress or just a white tee and
jeans, they complement every woman's silhouette. She
strives to continue to create from the inspiration and
connection she finds from the textures and natural tones of
the California coast. Her work is always evolving and
continually fresh, growing and changing organically, yet
capturing the essence to enjoy it for years to come.
